I'm Captain Jason, and I run Cool Runnings out of Cox Landing in Fort Lauderdale, about 25 to 35 minutes north of your Miami Beach hotel. The boat is a private 32 ft Contender fishing the same Gulf Stream that runs past South Beach, just from a faster launch point.
Most guests grab an Uber up I-95 before sunrise, park free at the dock, and are hooked up on sailfish and mahi trips out of Fort Lauderdale within 20 minutes of leaving the inlet. Check the full charter rates and inclusions before you lock a date.
Miami Beach guests almost always ask the same first question: why not book out of Miami Beach Marina or Government Cut? Honest answer, that fleet is dominated by shared party-boats and rotating crews. Cool Runnings is one boat, one captain, and one private group per trip. You get the same blue water without the shoulder-to-shoulder deck.
The run from Cox Landing puts us on the sailfish edge in about 15 minutes. From Miami Beach Marina, you'd be idling through Government Cut cruise-ship traffic before you ever saw a rod bend. That lost hour matters, especially in winter when the sailfish bite is best early.
My typical Miami Beach group leaves the hotel around 6:00 AM, hits the dock by 6:30 AM, and is trolling live baits before 7:00 AM. Winter is peak season for a reason. November through March, the sailfish push down the Florida coast and stack up in 120 to 250 feet of water, right where we fish.
That same stretch holds blackfin tuna, kingfish, and the occasional wahoo. Spring and summer flip the target list to mahi, with schools of 5 to 20 pound fish riding the weed lines a few miles offshore. Bottom fishing for snapper and grouper on the reef edge stays consistent year round if the family wants steady rod-bending action instead of chasing pelagics.
I book a lot of bachelor and bachelorette groups, Art Basel visitors in December, and corporate retreats staying at the Fontainebleau, Loews, W, and 1 Hotel. The captain reviews and recent trip reports give you a feel for what a normal day looks like. Everything from rods to bait to ice is on the boat, so you show up with sunscreen and a cooler for drinks.

OUR NEIGHBORHOODS IN MIAMI BEACH
SOUTH BEACH (OCEAN DRIVE & SOFI)
South of 5th up through 23rd Street. Ocean Drive hotels, Lincoln Road foot traffic, and the nightlife strip. Most of my SoFi guests Uber up A1A or take I-95; travel time is closer to 35 minutes if you leave after 6:30 AM.
MID-BEACH (COLLINS 41ST-63RD)
The Fontainebleau, Faena, Eden Roc, Nobu, and Boulan district. This stretch is my biggest pickup zone. Julia Tuttle Causeway straight to I-95 north puts you at Cox Landing in about 25 minutes with light traffic.
NORTH BEACH (63RD-BROADWATER)
Quieter than South Beach, more boutique hotels and condo rentals. Popular with families and repeat guests who want offshore fishing without the club scene. A1A north is often faster than I-95 from here at 6:00 AM.
WEST AVENUE / SUNSET HARBOUR
Luxury residential pocket near Sunset Harbour restaurants. Locals and long-stay guests who fish more than once a season. Easy MacArthur Causeway shot to I-95, then a straight run up to the Fort Lauderdale inlet.

WHAT MAKES MIAMI BEACH FISHING UNIQUE
The biggest hurdle for Miami Beach guests is the mental shift of driving 25 to 35 minutes north to fish. I get it, Miami Beach Marina is right there on Alton Road.
Here's the trade: that marina puts you in Government Cut and forces a 45 to 60 minute run before you're on productive water. Cox Landing puts you on the same sailfish edge in 15 minutes. You spend the difference actually fishing, not commuting on the water.
Traffic on I-95 southbound is brutal after 8:00 AM, so I schedule most Miami Beach trips to leave the dock at 7:00 AM and finish by early afternoon. That way the drive back beats rush hour and you still have the whole night for South Beach dinners. Uber and Lyft both run cheap this early; I've had guests pay under $35 from the Fontainebleau to the dock.
Weather is the other variable. Miami Beach can look glassy from the balcony while it's blowing 20 knots offshore. I make the call the night before based on the actual marine forecast, not the hotel view. If a trip gets bumped, reschedules are easy through the Cool Runnings booking calendar and there's no fee to move a date.
